Human Resources Generalist
Full Job Summary
Under the direction of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resource Generalist will assist in running the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources (HR) department, including hiring and interviewing staff, benefits overview, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.
Duties
- Creates programs to attract qualified candidates by designing and placing position announcements, advertising, and participating in job fairs. Participates in all recruiting events, i.e., job fairs, on-campus recruiting, open houses, and public speaking events related to recruiting. Builds partnerships with local businesses to expand recruiting efforts.
- Regularly meets with hiring managers and other appropriate managers to anticipate and plan for staffing needs.
- Recruits and interviews candidates; provides management with hiring recommendations.
- Generates and maintains internal and external job postings. Researches, analyzes, and prepares recruiting statistics and measurements; maintains candidate files and job description library.
- Coordinates the hiring process, including but not limited to conducting background and reference checks, negotiating salary offers, and issuing offer letters and compensation portfolios.
- Assist in administering and explaining the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) according to statute and internal policies and procedures.
- Assist in coordinate injury reports and related forms for workers’ compensation claims according to internal policy and procedures.
- Assist with the administration of company-wide human resources policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with company objectives and federal and state legal requirements.
- Coordinates and conducts employee relations activities and programs, including but not limited to employee counseling, interpretation of policies, new employee orientation, and employee recognition programs.

Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of management practices and principles including recruitment & selection, position classification, job analysis, and job evaluation.
- Considerable knowledge of human resource laws, rules, regulations to include: FLSA and overtime rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other employee related programs.
- Considerable knowledge of personal computers and Human Resource Information Systems individual systems.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and secure reliable transportation to the Authority’s Norfolk Office to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Offices and facilities on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
- Must be able to maintain secured access to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport and supporting facilities.
- Knowledgeable of SharePoint preferred.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification is preferred.
Education
- At least an Associate’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for a degree.
